12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

1)    Segment- people who own or rent property and California/Florida Residents

2)    John Xiayou, Adam Taitambou, Gianfranco Marchelli.

3)    John owns a 4 bedroom property in Westwood California, he finds the need of solar panels since his electricity bill goes high in prices and he uses it for work at home. He mentions how the need is higher than what he expected and how solar panels should be a product more people should focus on. I explained to him the services and he says that it would be a great idea, especially for elder people since they would be the ones that require the most of the installation and maintenance services.

Adam. He is a student currently living in Miami with his other four brothers, having a solar panel installation would be of great use since his electricity bill changes in amount frequently, having this amount of people living under one roof can be expensive with utilities, he is also a bio major and cares about the planet and living creatures, this product would help reduce the amount of carbon particles released to the atmosphere.

Gianfranco. He rents a house in Gainesville California, he mentions how his utilities vary monthly without congruence, he tries to reduce the amount of electricity he consumes but yet, somehow, he pays high prices for electricity since his apartment does not use gas for heating up water or the stove. Solar panels can help him monitor this expense easily and making it more transparent.

4)    The very first thing people do when they find this need is to reduce their electricity usage. The sources of information they look for is on how to use alternative energy sources, solar panels are the main solution for this problem and something that can las for years or for life. They report their expenses to their parents since they are young adults graduating or still in college.

5)    What I learned from this exercise is that this service and product does not require a marginal change in their daily life but instead an adaptation, switching to solar panels will help anyone within years to recover their investment and usually after 3 years begin to save money.

6)    I think the need of awareness has to increase since people don’t really focus on saving money on their utilities and how much of it they are investing each month, a perfect target audience would be those in the market who own their property. Humans naturally are always trying to find ways to optimize their savings, no matter their age or gender.

  1. Hey Roy, your post was a solid look into your potential clients. Its clear your customers are willing to try solar and switch off the typical and routine electric company contract. I think, if anything, that'd be a cool pitch to people; switch away from the monopolies known as a public utility company. It brings up an interesting debate. Nice post. I was able to see your interest in this industry.

  2. Roy,

I have really enjoyed keeping up with this idea. All your posts have further strengthened your pitch, and you have shown that it is also quite feasible. For anyone owning property, this would be a no-brainer. Luckily, there are many people who have a similar mindset and are always seeking new ways to save money whether it be in the short or long-run. Great post!
