16A –What’s Your Secret Sauce?

Describe five ways in which you think you have human capital that is truly unique. What is it about you, exactly, that makes you different? Write this up in a detailed list.
·      My dad has always been one of my biggest supporter and is willing to give me a small loan( not of a million dollars like Trump’s dad) that can help me grow my business
·      I have my fair connection with people in Los Angeles who are big entrepreneurs and would be interested in supporting this business.
·      My closest friends are also graduating soon, they will be graduating in computer science and the other one in business law. One will try to develop a website for my company, he is currently working for a federal agency (can’t name it) and the other one would be helping me with the legal necessities of the product since he is already working for a big firm in Beverly Hills in California.
·      Personal knowledge. Throughout the years I have been studying science and got my diploma, currently I am in business and planning to get a specialty in Environmental Engineering for business majors. I look up to Elon Musk so my plan is to be able to manage the company, working on the products on design and technology and maybe also sometimes delivery
·      Attitude. My ambition is pretty high when it comes to personal goals, I have gone through so much that at this point giving up is not really an option, I will work hard to get this business out there and make it functional

Interview the five people who know you the best.

( my parents speak Spanish, therefore I won’t be posting videos, Pablo doesn’t really like to have anything personal shared online but got his approval to make him part of this assignment, Prabhjot and Maysa are both foreign and they don’t feel comfortable on being recorded because of their accent so I have added a transcript of our conversation for each person)

Mom- “ you have always surprised me on how smart you are, as a kid it was always hard to keep you on one place and you always struggled with paying attention during class, I am aware that this is all part of your ADHD but this won’t stop you for achieving what you want in life. You learned how to do add and subtract at the age of two, as well as being able to perfectly read a book, doctors have always being surprised by this. I have been with you from up close watching you working when you were studying science and can notice that you have a fair advantage when you are focusing on something related to technology, maybe one day you will discover a new way to capture solar energy other than the current solar panels that exist out there in the market”.
Dad- “Your tenacity will help you once you graduate and get yourself out there in the professional field, you have been of great help on my personal job when you managed some stuff for the company, you knew at first that I wanted you to pursue the petroleum engineering career but now that I see you happy and with motivation in business I can tell that you will be great with your background in science and we both know( mom and I) that you don’t give up and you have showed us that ever since you left home at 13yo to play basketball, we are very proud.”
Prabhjot (friend and part of the project as a lawyer)- “ At first when we created the idea of solar panels I never thought I would learn so much from it, it’s such a great idea and I think our paths worked perfectly in order to make this a real business and not only a high school project. You have a great worker mentality and I am more than proud to be part of this and to help you get yourself out there with this personal project”
Pablo (friend and part of the project as a computer engineer) “ Man I hated when you switched majors because science rules! But seeing that you are not only focusing only in business is great in my opinion, having this project in mind is great for you because you will know how to develop it on each field necessary with the support of all those around you. You have been working hard for years, I have seen you struggling but somehow you are still out here and I am glad to see that, actual work for this solar idea will be hard but it is achievable and I know that you will not give up if something bad ever happens”
Maysa (girlfriend)” I think you are one of the smartest person I have ever met besides my dad, you always have an answer to everything, either is math or business or just advice. I think you are a great person that has gone through a lot, which has shaped you into becoming a strong minded person that works hard to get what you want and I admire you for that”.

I often bring myself down thinking I am not smart enough to do certain tasks I need to do, but how others see me bring me hope and mental help to keep on working. I know I have required the skills by my academics but I still feel like there is a lot to learn and also room for improvement which I honestly think would help my business with constant innovation to adapt to the needs of my. Costumers. All of my interviewees talked about the same aspect of myself of being a hard worker and that is true, there has been so many times when doors have closed in front of me and find my way to keep on going, but I don’t really like giving up because I have done it in the past and the feeling still haunts me. My list is well defined and I think they represent the basis of my business and one day will help achieve our goal or at least have fun trying this out, the risks are low but still existent but is so for every other business.

  1. Roy,

Glad to see how much effort you put into this post. I know sometimes its easy to bring yourself down, but you seem like a bright guy, with a superb passion for business. Luckily, you have these people in your life who appreciate what you do, and who you are as a person. By the way, I appreciate that joke about the loan, haha! Again, I really enjoyed reading this post and I wish you nothing but success man!
