27A – Reading Reflection No. 3
The Art of Social Media: Power
Tips for Power Users, Guy Kawasaki
1)
What was the general theme or argument of the book?
The general theme or argument of the book was to give tips
and tricks that can be useful for social media. Guy Kawasaki gives various tips
on how to build a social media account and how to integrate those social media
elements. The book provides valuable information about social media that could
potentially help people build their communities online.
2)
How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and
enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
The book, in my opinion connected with and enhanced what I
am currently learning in ENT 3003 through tips on how to optimize the use of
social media. Some tips include your avatar, cover photo, biography, content,
hashtags and videos. I remember Dr. Pryor has implemented the same method in
teaching, he has taught in a way where he provides his students with valuable
information in the form of videos, tips and simply discussing different course
elements and also has talked about social media in his lectures and the
importance of it. On the book is mentioned that creating a blog and building a
community through the representation of ideas can be valuable in building your
social media, which is similar to the way this class is structured.
3)
If you had to design an exercise for this class, based
on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
I would recommend an exercise where students can create
their Facebook or Instagram accounts about their business. And to only make sure
the format is good enough for a business account because I know it is hard to
get likes or views for videos as a business profile, so to follow the tips from
the book and it can also help those who are interested in posting about their
business on social media.
4)
What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when
reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from
your expectations?
While reading the book, one of the things I found surprising
was that people use all types of social media platforms, I have never heard of
Google Plus or thought about using Pinterest to get my business out there. It
is interesting how practical platforms are to spread the world about a private
business, digital era has expanded our opportunities for any kind of personal or
communal benefits.
