4A – Forming An Opportunity Belief
1. A big problem on campus is not finding enough
parking for all of the students that are enrolled
2.
Making it hard for students to get to classes and school activities on time,
sometimes they need to park far away from the buildings and they need to walk a
lot and with this weather is not really enjoyable. I believe that creating more facilities for parking for students would be a great idea.
3.
Alex granado and Anthony Flores, both of them students at UF
4.
Interview to Alex Granado
What is the exact nature of the need?
I live 9 mins away from campus and in order to
find parking I need to look for it at least one hour prior to class
When do
they become aware of the need -- that is, do they experience their need all the
time or only sometimes?
I assist from Monday to Fridays to school, every
day I need to go through this and I end up parking somewhere close to the
campus
How long
have they had the need?
Since the beginning of classes
When did they first become aware of their need?
Why?
Since I attended orientation they mentioned how
bad parking was and with all honesty I feel like the fees for parking are way
too high, we struggle with this every day and it shouldn’t happen. I cant walk
from my house to here I would take too long and get sweaty to class
How are they currently addressing their need?
I parked at my friend’s complex who lives just
minutes away by walking
How
satisfied are they with this solution?
Very satisfied, I avoid having to pay for
parking fees and waste my time driving around
Interview with
Anthony Flores
What is the exact nature of the need?
I had to find an apartment close to campus in order to avoid
parking there
When do they become aware of the need -- that
is, do they experience their need all the time or only sometimes?
Ever since I transferred I knew it would be a struggle to
park on campus. I work on campus and sometimes I need to stay there for hours,
I would be scared of my car getting hit by people parked next to me
How long have they had the need?
Since the beginning of classes and even prior to that at other
colleges
When did they first become aware of their need?
Why?
My friends always warned me to not park on campus, I thought
about investing the money on my apartment instead of parking fees or fixing my
car from getting scratched or damaged. I felt like this became more a necessity
than an option.
How are they currently addressing their need?
I leave my car at home whenever I go to work on campus or
when I have classes, I just use it to get around and do grocery shopping or any
other activity, parking my car at home has saved me a lot of money on gas and
on parking fees
How satisfied are they with this
solution?
Very satisfied
5. What did you learn about your opportunity?
I learned that creating more parking spaces would be a great
idea and it would help every student that drives to school, maybe creating
public transportation more accessible would help in the bigger picture.
What was the most
surprising thing you learned about your opportunity?
That this is a problem and not really something that simply
students want but something they need to get solved, it creates conflict for
them making their assistant to school unpleasant.
7. How much of your original opportunity is still there?
It is very present, I think there are other options that can
be taken into consideration but I think this is the strongest one of them all.
Do you believe that your new opportunity is more accurate
than when you started?
I believe it stays the same, solid solution that every
student would agree upon.
Hey Roy, I couldnt agree more with your issue you decided to write your blog discussion on. Everyday, we as students struggle to park. I drive my scooter to class and its brutal having to look down the parking zones and look for just the minimal amount of inches needed to fit my scooter into it. Then you run the risk of knocking someone else's over. I pray the scooter driver next to me never walks out when I shift theirs left of right. Nice post.
ReplyDeleteRoy,
ReplyDeleteIt seems that the issue of parking is one that plagues us all here at the University of Florida. I used to live at 13th Street Apartments and usually walked to school instead of driving due to the lack of available parking. I considered getting a scooter, but I never really got to doing so. This is something the university should consider a major issue and hopefully sometime down the line there will be alternative solutions!
